Propose a RISE Project

Requesting an analysis of the RISE dataset is simple. Start by reviewing the RISE Project Proposal User Guide, which explains each step in detail. If you still have questions, check out our FAQs page or contact RISE staff at RISE@rheumatology.org.
Prepare Your Request
- Review the RISE Project Proposal User Guide.
- Download and complete the ACR's Disclosure Form; you will upload this as part of the online request form.
- Review the scope of your data request. RISE offers two pathways to choose from: for publication and other. For definitions, see the RISE Project Proposal User Guide.
Project Proposal Process
Step 1 – Complete the RISE Proposal Form
- Fill out RISE Project Description (Contains the abstract, aims, and other study information to define the analytic work to be done. This is submitted as part of the RISE Proposal Form).
- Click on the Submit RISE Proposal button to complete. This link opens an interactive form. If you would like a preview of the form, see a sample RISE Proposal Form.
Step 2 – Administrative Review
After you submit your application, ACR staff will review it and share feedback.
Step 3 – Research and Publications Subcommittee Review
After ACR staff review, the RISE Research and Publications Subcommittee will review the proposal.
Step 4 – Notice of Review Results
There are three possible results of the subcommittee review:
- Approved as is
- Revise and resubmit
- Rejected
Step 5 – Data Analytic Center Assignment
Approved projects are assigned to one of the RISE data analytic centers (DACs) for analysis. Project PIs will work collaboratively with the DAC to complete their project.
DACs are top-ranked academic institutions staffed with renowned experts in informatics, data science, implementation sciences, comparative effectiveness, and analyzing rheumatology EHR data. RISE has been partnered with the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Alabama, Birmingham since the inception of RISE in 2014.

Step 6 – Conduct Analysis
Once project activities, milestones, and deliverables are agreed to in a statement of work (SOW), the requestor and DAC team collaborate to complete the analysis.
Step 7 – Center Delivers Results
As the deliverables defined in the SOW are completed, the results will be shared with the requestor.
