These intensive, two-day, pre-ACR Convergence conferences are designed to meet the specific educational needs of rheumatology professionals who want to learn ultrasound technology. Under the guidance of experts from around the world, attendees will perform hands-on scanning of live models to enhance technical proficiency for the diagnosis of normal and abnormal clinical conditions. At the completion of this course, attendees should be able to demonstrate familiarity with the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the shoulder, elbow, hand, wrist, hip, knee, foot, and ankle, and ultrasound guidance of aspirations, injections, and biopsies.
Both novice and advanced learners are encouraged to join one of the courses. Although documentation is not required, some basic experience in rheumatologic joint sonography is recommended as a prerequisite for the Intermediate-Advanced Rheumatologic Ultrasound Course.
Target Audience
These activities are intended for rheumatology professionals with a beginner to low intermediate level of ultrasound experience, or rheumatology professionals with ultrasound experience interested in advanced learning opportunities. To provide an optimal learning environment, attendance is limited.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the Basic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course, participants will be able to:
- Identify specific indications for ultrasound applications within rheumatology practice
- Integrate ultrasound techniques into daily rheumatology POCUS to enhance diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making
- Produce high-quality ultrasound images of elementary lesions at a basic-intermediate level
- Assess ultrasound findings in rheumatology and apply them to improve clinical outcomes and patient understanding of disease processes
- Demonstrate ultrasound guidance proficiently during joint and tendon injection procedure
Upon completion of the Intermediate-Advanced Rheumatologic Ultrasound Course, participants will be able to:
- Identify ultrasound pathologies associated with a range of rheumatic conditions
- Utilize validated scoring systems to analyze and interpret ultrasound images of diverse rheumatic conditions
- Facilitate improved shared decision-making with patients by leveraging insights gained from point-of-care ultrasound images
- Demonstrate common regional mechanical issues and their assessment by ultrasound
- Implement dynamic maneuvers that enhance the quality of ultrasound image acquisition
